Hailing from Seattle, Washington, mezzo-soprano Heidi Vanderford has a career that is on the rise. In the past two years she has made three important debuts at world renowned opera houses including Washington National Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Chicago Opera Theater. In addition to singing a wide range of roles in these debuts she has also been fortunate to cover all of the five Valkyries at Seattle Opera in their 2005 production of Der Ring Des Niebilungen. Tempered with her operatic successes she has found great fulfillment in singing concert repertoire including Spanish works such as El Amor Brujo and various chamber works for voice and classical guitar. In the 2006-2007 season Ms. Vanderford attended “The Interpretation of Spanish Song” workshop in Granada, Spain. She was one of five singers chosen to sing in masterclasses with the world famous mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza.
Ms. Vanderford was given challenging and rewarding assignments during her summer residencies at such young artist programs as Glimmerglass Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis and Cincinnati Opera. She sang comprimario roles and understudied leading roles gaining a tremendous amount of experience. In particular from 1999-2001 Ms. Vanderford spent three summer seasons at Opera Theater St. Louis and understudied the title role in Offenbach's The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein in addition to singing Oenone in Rameau's Hippolytus et Aricie. She also has a particular interest in oratorio works and has performed Handel's Messiah, Verdi Requiem and the alto solo in the Rachmaninov Vespers to great acclaim.
Future engagements include Gertrude in Hansel and Gretel with Skagit Opera as well as a recital series in New England with esteemed classical guitarist, Daniel Corr.
