    Marana Avant most recently sang the role of Béatrice in Béatrice et Bénédict for Tacoma Opera. This past summer she spent a second season in The Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Program for Singers. While there she covered the roles of Mercédès in Carmen and the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte. Last year’s credits with The Santa Fe Opera included Isabetta in the first fully staged production of Phillip Wharton’s one act opera Two Saintes Caught in the Same Act as part of the Apprentice Scenes. She made her Lincoln Center debut in January 2006 as A Student in the New York City premiere of Osvaldo Golijov’s contemporary Spanish opera Ainadamar directed by Peter Sellars.
    Ms. Avant has done operatic and concert work with many local groups including Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony, Skagit Opera, Seattle Opera Guild and Bellevue Opera. Roles performed include the Second Lady, Dorothée in Cendrillon, Peep-bo in The Mikado, and Cousin Hebe in H.M.S. Pinafore. Other roles studied and partially performed include Annio in La Clemenza di Tito, Zulma in L’italiana in Algeri, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Adalgisa in Norma, and Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier.
    Ms. Avant was recently a semi-finalist in the Eleanor Lieber Competition, is a Seattle Opera Guild Training Fund Grant recipient for 2004 and 2005, and took 2nd Place in the Seattle Civic Opera Competition in 2003 and 2004. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Arizona. A Northwest native, she currently resides in Seattle and studies with Marianne Weltmann.
